Eleanor Roosevelt: Her Secret Journey
Mar 25th to Apr 2, 2017

REMOUNT DATES: MARCH 25 TO APRIL 2, 2017

Ashland Contemporary Theatre will remount our previously sold-out production of Rhoda Lerman’s play, “Eleanor Roosevelt: Her Secret Journey.”   The one-woman show stars Cynthia Tank and is directed by Jeannine Grizzard.  Show dates are Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 2pm for two weekends: March 25th & 26th and April 1st & 2nd.

The play takes a deeply personal look at one of America’s most beloved and indomitable leaders, who was often called the “First Lady of the World.”  Her public causes contrast with her private battles to bring audiences a distinctly feminine perspective on power, politics, and war.  Jean Stapleton made Lerman’s take on Eleanor famous about fifteen years ago and in a subsequent audiobook portrayal.

A true statesman, Eleanor was one of the first women to excel at politics through her discretion, insight, and indestructible faith in the better angels of humanity.  Her influence is felt today, through countless causes and campaigns that eventually culminated in what is widely considered her greatest achievement: the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights.  Her inner journey leading to that greatness is the story of this touching play.

ACT chose this production based on the conviction that to present the story of an inspiring woman leader would be of service to the community in this turbulent time.  Audiences and critics agree: Cynthia Tank’s “Eleanor” is a great success.
