ACT Seeks Producing Artistic Director

Ashland Contemporary Theatre is seeking a new Producing Artistic Director.  ACT was  founded in 1991 as Ashland Community Theatre.  Since our re-branding as Ashland Contemporary Theatre in 2010 we have consistently produced thought-provoking new work and contemporary hits that stir the imagination.

2014 was a landmark year for ACT, both critically and financially, with “Sneak Preview” again mentioning us in their “Best of Ashland” poll for Best Play, Best Director and Best Actor.  2015 featured a full production of “Lovers” by acclaimed Irish playwright Brian Friel.  And we concluded our 25th year in early 2016 with numerous sell-out performances of the Tony Award winning play, “RED,” starring Peter Alzado.

The Producing Artistic Director leads the collaborative process of selecting plays and shaping budgets with the Board’s Reading Committee and the Artistic Director Emerita; recruits and manages directors, actors, technical personnel; oversees quality control in all artistic matters, and is responsible for the procurement of production materials either directly or through a production manager.  The Producing Artistic Director also serves as the bridge between ACT and the community, acting as lead spokesperson, advising about fundraising and coordinating with board personnel on venue arrangements.

Our ideal candidate is both comfortable working within committees and a visionary self-starter: a talented director, well-versed in all aspects of theatre and experienced in stewarding productions from start to finish.  The position pays a monthly stipend and a budget percentage.  Contact Board President, Ruth Wire, for more information: 541-482-7742 or
